Statement : The broad concept of representation is consciously applied to the work I do. Much of the work can be viewed as little experiments set-up to interrogate meaning and how these meanings are communicated. These meanings, which may or may not be clear, lie within different cultural and socio-political spaces which shape society. I am beginning to take a keen interest in the dynamics of these contemporary forces which give character to urban spaces which in turn have already been prescribed by town-planning, architecture and history. As such, the use of contemporary media, while paying particular attention to specific sites is important in the process of making the work. | | 1992 | Matthew Ngui, Selected Works, 1989-1992, National Museum Art Gallery, Singapore | | 1994 | TUGMAAN/The Ties That Bind Australia Centre, Manila, Philippines | | 1995 | Canberra National Sculpture Forum Canberra School of Art Gallery, Australia | | 1996 | The Yang Family, collaboration with Theatreworks, Amoy Street, Singapore | | 1996 | Food, Toys and Sculpture, Singapore Art Museum, Singapore | | 1996 | 23th BIENAL INTERNACIONAL SAO PAULO,Fundacao Bienal de Sao Paulo,Brazil | | 1997 | dX, documentaX, Documenta hauptbahnhof, Kassel, Germany | | 1997 | Cities on the Move, Vienna Secession, Austria | | 1998 | You can order and eat delicious poh-piah..., Goethe Institute, Singapore | | 1998 | "EAT!", the food exhibition, Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, Australia | | 1998 | Installation with pipes, chairs and historical images capcMus?e d'art contemporain de Bordeaux, France | | 1998 | Second Nature; Cityscapes of Singapore Central Plaza, Wan Chai, Hong Kong | | 1999 | 3 Points of View, Louisiana Museum of Contemporary Art, Humlebaek, Denmark | | 1999 | Light Portraits, centre de r?flexion sur l'image et ses contextes, Switzerland | | 1999 | Installation with grey pipes and chairs; hello?
