Foundation Stone Deposition and Sculpture Competition
Award Ceremony for the New BMA Art Centre

After four years of anticipation, Bangkok's Governor, Dr. Phijit Rattakul will officially preside at the openting ceremony of Bangkok's first Contemporary Art and Culture Hall on Sunday, May 7th 2000 at 9:58 am. The ceremony will take place at the site on Pathumwan Intersection.

The Contemporary Art and Culture Hall will take approximately 780 days to construct in the amount of 300 million baht (hall). It is a 94.20 meters high building with 23,000 squares meters of useful areas. The hall is 12 stories high, 3 of which are basement areas. The architecture of the hall is internationally certified and is designed to serve as a full-scale art center.

The Hall will be Bangkok's first art central where adults and youths can experience and feel the priceless value of fine art. Its objective is to create harmony in our society, between substance and artistry, developments in material and logic that will be bequeathed from this art hall.

On this auspicious occasion, there will be a presentation of the winning award of Bangkok's best sculpture as well as mounting the awards 1, 2 and 3 at the garden area in front of the construction site. Exhibition on best designs of the Contemporary Art and Culture Hall of Bangkok will also be held at the garden area.
