Thai kids shine at international art fest

Three Thai children from the Home of Children's Art made a name for themselves and their country at the recent 13th Kanagawa Biennial World Children's Art Exhibition 2005, held at the Kanagawa Plaza for Global Citizenship, Yokohama, Japan. The objective of the biennal art fest is to create an understanding between children of the world through art as a medium.

From among a total of 33,865 artworks submitted from 101 countries _ including 604 from Thailand _ three paintings by Thai children stole the hearts of the eminent judges to take the Kanagawa Prize.

The three children, all students of prominent art teacher Sangkhom Thongmee, are four-year-old Chayanis Wongwichit from St Francis Xavier School with her painting Mother and Child, multi-award winner eight-year-old Sanhaphon Ketklao of Laor-uthit School with his painting Adventure, and 10-year-old Sanpot Ketklao of Ratchavinit School with his work Young Musician.

All three children will be recognised as Outstanding Children in the field of art and claim a plaque and certificate from the prime minister on Children's Day 2006.
