Every weekend this month, the Children's Museum will be hosting
a special show. On Saturday, November 9, at 3pm, Kazuki Yano will stage a pantomime, and on Sunday, November 10, the Jo Louise Theatre will enact the episode of Hanuman catching Benjakaya from the great Indian epic Ramayana. Next in line are a mask theatre staged by Marco Lufy and Loughi dell' Arte on November 18, and a re-run of Yano's pantomime on Sunday, November 19. The last week will see an Asian-European folk performance on November 22, the Finnish Puppet Theatre on November 23, and a rerun of Lufy and the Loughi dell's Arte's mask theatre on November 24. | Art contest for young people "Rich Man, Poor Man" |

Young people are invited to submit artwork on the theme of "Rich
Man, Poor Man'' for an exhibition to be held at a "Culture,
Context and Choice in Development'' conference at the Windsor
Suites Hotel from November 28 to 30. A variety of media will be considered, including photography, prints, paintings and posters. A judging panel will select two works in two categories: youths aged from 10 to 15; and young people aged from 16 to 25 years old. The winning entries will be printed in postcard format and donated to the volunteer organisations and NGOs of the artist's choice to support the work undertaken by those groups. Each person can submit up to three pieces of work. Each should be no larger than A-4 size, and given a title. The deadline for submissions is November 8. The National Energy Policy Office is organising energy conservation
activities for youths. They consist of three programmes: Students in Prathom 4 to 6 are invited to participate in a painting contest on the theme of water-saving measures. The contestants must bring along their family's water bills for the months of September and October of this year. Those who can show that their family has cut down on water use will immediately earn themselves a cloth bag. Secondary school students are invited to attend a water and energy conservation camp, to be held in Kanchanaburi. University students are invited to submit a proposal on how their campus could economise on the use of water and electricity. King Prajadhipok's Institute (KPI) invites students nationwide
to join a watercolour drawing contest on the topic ``Five Years
of Political Reform under the New Constitution'' to vie for scholarships,
certificates and a chance to showcase their work at the ``KPI
Congress IV'' to be held from November 8 to 10 at the United
Nations Conference Centre, Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue, Bangkok. The drawing contest will be conducted under three categories: Primary School (Prathom), Junior High School (Mathayom 1-3), and Senior High School (Mathayom 4-6). The winner is entitled to a 6,000 baht scholarship, while the first and second runners-up are each entitled to scholarships worth 4,000 baht and 3,000 baht respectively. In addition, all winners will also receive honorary certificates. Winners will be announced on KPI's Web site at www.kpi.ac.th on November 1. is organising the 48th National Exhibition of Art from September
6 to 29 at the National Gallery, Chao Fa Road, Bangkok. Awarded entries of the National Art contest will be on display along with 138 pieces of artwork by renowned artists such as Sawad Tantisook and Thawan Datchanee. His Majesty the King will also loan his paintings to the exhibition. | Silpa Bhirasri lecture |

National Artist Tawan Dachanee will give this year's Silpa Bhirasri
lecture, an annual event to commemorate Acharn Silpa Bhirasri
Day, which falls on Sunday. Silpa Bhirasri (born Corrado Feroci in 1892) was a native of Italy who came to Thailand to teach art. He was instrumental in the founding of Silpakorn University and made such a sterling contribution to the field that he is now honoured as the ``Father of Modern Thai Art''. He passed away in 1962. The title of Tawan's lecture is "Kwam Rak Yiang Bida Mee Tor Butr" (Like a Father's Love for His Children). hot season with two series of classes in the techniques of painting
watercolours and oils. Two courses on each technique will be held; from March 30 to April 28 and May 4 to 26. Classes take place every weekend from 9am to 4pm. Stamping out corruption in Thailand once and for all is a goal
probably beyond the reach of adults today but perhaps we can
pin our hopes on the next generation accomplishing the task.
"Honesty" is the theme of a painting competition for
children organised by the Anti-Corruption Network, the Pridi
Banomyong Institute and the Asia Foundation. This will be followed
by the presentation of awards to the prize-winning painters.

workshop by Gerd Rohling at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Chiang
Mai, from January 14 to 25. The results of the workshop will

A Thai puppet show presented by the Poh Chang College of Arts
and Crafts will be part of the entertainment at an "Afternoon
Tea at Tamnak Prathom" event this Saturday, January 12 at
Tamnak Prathom, Ngarmwongwan Soi 2. The performance will be an episode from the well-loved folk tale, Prince of the Golden Conch Shell. The episode, "Rojana Finds a Husband," includes verse by His Majesty King Rama II. The Poh Chang Puppets Troupe, consisting of some 20 puppeteers and musicians, was founded just four years ago by students and teaching staff from the Handicrafts Department, together with the college's Thai Classical Music Club. The performance at Tamnak Prathom this Saturday will be free of charge. The audience will be invited to give donations.
